• A perspective is a coherent set of assumptions
about the way a process operates
• Four perspectives of communication
– Psychological
– Social constructionist
– Pragmatic
– Cultural studies
For this blog i will focus on cultural studies perspective in light of the article from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8066129.stm about the Tamil Tigers press release saying that their leader was in fact dead.
If one looks at the whole Sri Lankan and Tamil conflict over the last few weeks the interact can been seen as well as interdependent between the two parties. The pragmatic model of communication (figure 2.1) shows a outline of the similar pattern that had happened between the Sri Lankan govt and the Tamil Tigers about its now dead leader.
My point is that media can change and or question our perspectives and in doing so influence our beliefs. one should always keep your guard up when watching the news and or watch different channels to get a different perspective.

ReplyDeletehow the sri lankan govt is trying to set an agenda and influence the public on the issue of the late tamil tiger leader..
it's interesting to see how our learning process comes full circle..

ReplyDeletemedia does plays a big part and is highly capable of spreading messages and issues to it's viewers. the government and media tends to filter whatever infomation that is deemed to influence or portray bad on them.
ReplyDeletetherefore, we must learn to stand firm and look things is an more individual view. and not absorb everything that is presented in the media to us.
i definitely think there is complete truth in this. lol. it is not only television or the newspaper. i personally think that even websites like google or yahoo are just as powerful if not more as well. they are the people who decide which information or websites turn up when u enter a search subject. imo, this kinda control to information & knowledge is pretty darn scary indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt all goes back to being discerning when you first read a media article or watch news coverage of an event. Although they are responsible for the task of news reporting in a neutral way, information is usually laced with some bias.
ReplyDeleteMedia influences us very greatly especially nowadays when media plays such a big role in our lives. It is very important how we learn to see things more objectively rather than absorbing everything that media brings us.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this. It's kind of amazing how much we allow the media to influence us sometimes really.
